What is really scary?

I’m not afraid. I’m not afraid. I’m not afraid. Russian chton is a cultural code, an anthropomorphic Russia. I'm used to.To the syringes on children’s playgrounds. To the blocks of flats where it’s better not to make eye contact with passers‑by in the courtyards. To the old people counting coins at the cash register. To the fact that there’s no right to choose. I'm used to. We’ve all gotten used to it. To the prohibitions. To the fear of saying or doing something wrong. To the news that feels like a horror movie. To the nighttime explosions that make the walls shake. We’ve grown so accustomed to the horror that we’ve stopped noticing where reality ends. What’s happening feels like a very scary and long dream. And perhaps the scariest thing isn’t even what’s happening anymore. The scariest thing is that we’ve learned to live with it. So what is truly scary?
